What is Individual Design?

Individual Design ( ID ) is an elegant process in which a customized training and lifestyle plan is formulated based on the clients goals, priorities, current ability and assessment noticings.

The individualization ensures the progressive program design prescription allows for the client to reach their maximum physical potential via a vehicle that is purely specific to them, every day.

Step 1 : Consultation : 30-60 minutes

The initial stage of the ID process begins with a 30-60 minute consultation with Coach Chad. The consult provides the perfect opportunity for you to express your own personal goals and priorities inside and outside of the gym.

Knowing specifically where you want to go and what you want to achieve provides the initial building blocks in the Program Design Process.

Step 2 : Assessment : 30 Minutes

The Assessment component of Individual Design provides important feedback for not only Coach Chad, but also to you as the client and allows for Chad to find the optimal start point in Program Design.

The assessment tool allows Chad to not only identify strengths / weaknesses and potential red flags utilizing specific movement patterns. It also serves as an accurate way to measure progress when revisiting these assessment protocols.

Measurement plays a vital role in the client’s training life cycle as it delivers a reliable indication of progression over time.

Program Design

The initial stage of the ID process begins with a 30-60 minute consultation with Coach Chad. The consult provides the perfect opportunity for you to express your own personal goals and priorities inside and outside of the gym.

Knowing specifically where you want to go and what you want to achieve provides the initial building blocks in the Program Design Process.

The Program will be developed following three key steps :

  • Step 1: Planning

A plan on how to best get you to where you want to go will be developed around your lifestyle ie : If you want to train 3 days per week, this needs to be planned opposed to having to be in the gym every day.

  • Step 2: Prioritize

Priorities from consult ( Goals ) + Priorities from assessment data will help determine what is best for your progression now and also in consideration of what direction the progression may take over time. This is the beauty of ID, it will take you where you want to go.

  • Step 3: Periodize

Periodization essentially means we will plan blocks of time spent in phases working on your priorities and goals. Periodizing allows for Chad to methodically work back from the end goal, implementing the necessary steps along the way.

As you can see there is no guesswork in Program Design.

Nourishment / Basic Lifestyle Guidelines ( BLG’s)

During the assessment phase, you will also have the opportunity to explore nourishment and lifestyle or in other words, basically everything that happens outside of the gym.

Training is undoubtedly a large component of “fitness”, however, it’s important that considerable awareness is created around outside of the gym factors that have a huge impact on our quality of life quality and on our training.

Important factors include:

  • Sleep and Stress
  • Circadian Rhythm
  • Digestion
  • Hydration
  • Food Quality

All of the above play a vital role in optimising our quality of life and reaching our desired goals , spending time exploring them will yield a positive result inside and outside of the gym setting.

Reconsultation

The re-consultation is just as important as the initial consultation. As time passes by, life changes and so may our goals and priorities. A Monthly reconsult allows for us to continue to work toward your specific goals even when they change.

Purpose is everything and such an important part of your training journey. A monthly check in ensures your efforts are always aligned to your purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is ID different to Personal training?

The main difference between ID and PT is the level of autonomy instilled in the client. Traditionally speaking, PT would see the coach hands on and not leaving the client’s side for the 30-60 minute session. Individual Design brings together the best of both worlds. The specificity and individualization of PT, plus, the energy, connection and dynamic environment of group training. With each client’s Program completely tailored toward individual goals and within current ability, this gives the coach the freedom to work with multiple clients simultaneously when on the gym floor.

  • Who is ID meant for?

Individual Design is for anyone who has a desire to take the next step in their fitness and lifestyle journey.

With the key focuses being “ Exercise, Behaviour, Lifestyle and Nutrition” the opportunities are broad and inclusive. Some of the more common reasons for seeking ID are:

    • Current training regimen is not providing the same fulfilment as it previously has
    • Burn out / Chronic injury , soreness
    • Fat Loss / Nutrition Guidance ( Training hard but lifestyle needs attention )
    • Specific Performance Goals ie : To improve on / compete in the sport of fitness ( Crossfit ), Get stronger ( Snatch / Clean and Jerk etc )
    • To connect fitness and lifestyle and discover Purpose
    • Looking for a more personalized regimen
    • Accountability
  • Do I train alone?

Individual Design doesn’t mean you will be training alone. Yes, you will have a fully Individualized Program designed by your coach after your initial consultation and assessment, but, you will be training with others who have gone through the exact same individualized process and are following their own customized plan at the very same time as you.

We believe that connection, community, relationships and fun are all such vital and necessary components within the fitness journey so will always support and prioritize creating an environment that encapsulates this within the Individual Design experience.

  • Do you still do Crossfit?

Yes you can still do “Crossfit”. Mixed Modal training is one of the more enjoyable and effective styles of training. The main difference you will notice is that your Mixed Modal workouts are created with your ability and goals in mind. Program Design is centred around you and what connects with you and your priorities. “Fran” is not a priority, unless you want to make it one.

  • How many times a week do I work out? Are there set times?

    The simple answer… it depends.

You and your coach will create the most ideal training plan for you as you work through your initial consultation and the noticings that come from digging in together.

Traditionally, people have been sold the “more is better” solution. We believe in taking the “minimum effective dose” approach. If you are a Mum of 2, looking to shed some body fat and boost your daily energy levels then forcing you to be in the gym 5 days a week is likely unnecessary. If your goals are more performance based then perhaps we do need to look at volume but you and your coach will find the answer to this together. There is so much more to life beyond grinding it out in the gym, we’ll help you discover the most appropriate blend to not only thrive in the gym, but outside of the gym and in life where it matters the most.

  • Do we train in the same area at the gym as the group classes?

No, at The Chamber we have a designated ID area which is fully equipped so that 4 clients can utilize the space comfortably at the same time. The space is pre booked to prevent clutter so you will always have access to ample space and the equipment required in your daily Program Design

  • I have back pain, is this type of training suitable for me?

More often than not, yes. We have had many clients who have come to us with persistent injuries and been able to resolve them with a long term and progressive approach to training due to the ability to individualize the plan and control the variable that may be uncontrollable in other training regimens.

All Programs are based on the Initial Consult and movement assessment which gives us insight into what we need to prioritise in the Design.

*As a fitness coach, we have a duty of care to uphold and of course, to do no harm. After the coach runs the initial assessment they will then decide if they need to “refer out” if the area of pain is above the scope of practice for the coach.

  • I’ve just had a baby and I’m looking to get back into fitness. Is this for me?

Absolutely. With the level of individualization of the program and the relationship between coach and client, there likely is no better way.
Your Coach will create a progressive plan for you in your return to fitness and have the ability to make sure the pathway is safe and risk free.

*Your Coach will request to have an open communication with a child health nurse in the initial stages of the return to training

  • How often will I see a coach?

Often. One of the most crucial components we believe is the coach / client relationship.

You will start your ID journey with a 60-90 minute initial consult and a 30 minute movement assessment. You will also have a monthly 30 minute consultation to ensure everything is tracking in the direction you wish it to be. On top of this you will regularly be in contact with your coach while training on the gym floor. Yes you will be developing the life skill of autonomy within the gym space but your coach will be there every step of the way.

Your Coach will also be reviewing your training and lifestyle results daily on the “Coach RX” training delivery platform so you can rest assured your coach is never too far away.

  • How do I communicate with my coach?

    Two Ways

    1. On the gym floor and in consultation. We love human connection so the more conversations you wish to have the better
    2. “CoachRX training app”: Your Program will be delivered via our customized training app which you enter workout results, videos and feedback. Your Coach will be reviewing this daily so if you miss them, just swing a message.
"The best thing I ever did was ask Chad to design a fitness program to suit not only my time restraints but also to help with nagging injuries that I had always just trained through not knowing any better. Now 6 months in and I am injury free and back to being the best version of myself physically and mentally" Rysha
"Chad is meticulous when it comes to planning my training. I can clearly see how every workout, every movement has a specific purpose directly linked to achieving my goals. If a movement is not producing the intended stimulus, he always has a backup plan to get you where you need to be." Jordan
"I can honestly say that since I have been doing PT with Chad over the last few years, you have given me direction and guidance on achieving my goals. I have lost weight, gained a better knowledge of what I’m able to achieve in my life." Angelene
"What an amazing week of training, can’t get enough of this place. Workouts are spot everyday with the results to show. Great atmosphere and group of people to train with." Matt
